Who’d have thought? Given that there are only three remaining members of Nirvana after Kurt Cobain’s death in 1994 – Dave Grohl, guitarist Pat Smear and bassist Krist Novoselic – and that both Grohl and Smear currently play together in Foo Fighters, all it would take for a reunion of surviving Nirvana members would be for Novoselic to hop on stage at A Foos gig.

And it happened. On Tuesday, at their show at the Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene, Oregon, The Foo Fighters invited the lanky Nirvana bassist on stage for their performance of the early Foos classic ‘Big Me.’ Fitting, as a fan on Instagram pointed out, given that Novoselic is 6’7”. It wasn’t the first time Novoselic had played with the Foos, but it was the first in a long while. Could there be more such ‘unofficial’ reunions on their upcoming world tour?

The highlights didn’t end there, of course, as the band brought on Luke Spiller, frontman for opening act The Struts for a duet with Foos drummer Taylor Hawkins on their cover of Queen’s ‘Under Pressure.’ The Foo Fighters also performed a partial cover of Rush’s ‘Tom Sawyer’ and a tribute to Tom Petty.
